Frequently Asked Questions about the SP Diagnostics SPi and 'Sykes-Pickavant SPe - Automotive Electronic Service Tool'

We are continuing to be asked questions by customers about Sykes Pickavant's SPe handset. As there is much confusion about the SPi and SPe here is a list of questions which we have been asked:

Q: Aren't SP Diagnostics and Sykes-Pickavant the same?
A: No, SP Diagnostics are proud to say we have not been part of Sykes-Pickavant for over 2 years, after a management buy-out of the diagnostics design and development part of Sykes-Pickavant in 2009! Since then we have invested and grown the business and moved in to a much larger premises.

Q: Will the SPe do more than my ACR G2/SPi?
A: No, as per the Sykes-Pickavant advertising the SPe is a service based tool, with no real diagnostic capability, all you have to do is make sure your G2/SPi up to date.

Q: Is the SPe an upgrade to the ACR or SPi?
A: No, the functionality of the SPe is comparable with our Service Scan Handset (£995.00)

Q: Can I transfer my remaining ACR/SPi subscription if I buy an SPe?
A: No, the SPe is a 'bought in' line from Sykes-Pickavant and you would require a new licence from them.

Q: Can I still get support though the SP Support website and over the phone on 0844 561 7861
A: No, as the SPe is not made by us in the UK, we can not assist with product or provide technical support.

Q: Who provides techinical support for the Sykes-Pickavant ACR/G2 and SPi?
A: We do, call the SP Support help line and we answer.

Q: Where is the SPe made and designed?
A: The SPe is not designed and manufactured in the UK, our SPi and ACR are designed, manufactured and more importantly supported in the UK by us.

Q: Why are Sykes-Pickavant sales managers telling me it's a new version or upgrade?
A: It seems Sykes-Pickavant are attempting to transfer customers away from the products they are happy and familiar with, that have given great return on investment, for something untried in the UK. It would appear to be a reasonable assumption that it makes them more money, as it does not have the capability but is more expensive?

Q: I already have an ACR G2/SPi, what would I gain if I buy an SPe?
A: Probably nothing, you would spend £1695 +VAT on a new SPe to get what you already have, when all you really require is a subscription from SP Diagnostics for £35.95 +VAT per month*

Q: Do you also support the Sykes-Pickavant Bluebox
A: No, they are also 'bought in' lines by Sykes-Pickavant.
